Day 183: Delayed Intensification almost begins

Monday, March 10, 2008 - Okay, in the last post I said that Mady would be starting the Second Induction chemotherapy phase on Tuesday. Turns out I was half right: she starts the Delayed Intensification phase on Tuesday. I should've been completely wrong, because she was supposed to start today after not having eaten anything since the night before. But, I heard her scream a big "OH NO!" this morning when she remembered that she shouldn't have just eaten her big yummy breakfast... so, Delayed Intensification is delayed until tomorrow.

She'll get many of the same drugs that she received during her initial Induction phase (hence my confusion about the name) at MGH: Cytarabine, Dexamethasone, Methotrexate, Vincristine, and the dreaded PEG-asparaginase (see Day 6) . Plus, she'll get some new ones: Doxorubicin, and Thioguanine. This is five weeks of quite-intensive therapy, and it's likely to hit her pretty hard.

Positive thoughts are very much appreciated... especially during this Delayed Intensification phase. Thank you family and friends!

Oh, here we go again! The next battle. I think of knights in shining armor, clashing with their spears. Only inside the armor is--Madeline! Chris! and the horses are huge and have names, and those bits of armor over their long faces that show their eyes. The crowds in the stands are all wearing velvet and gold, and the ladies have long pointed hats and are fainting with excitement at the struggle. There's a guy at the corner of the field with a huge trumpet, and someone selling ale and cakes. Go, Sir Mady! Go, Lady Chris, and Sir Trey, and Lady Julia. Not to mention Buttercup whizzing all around the field. Anyway, be strong and be well. We all love you.

It's quite an education to learn all those names of chemicals going into our Mady's system! If these were colors, she might turn into all the colors of the rainbow! I'm not trying to be funny, just trying to have a positive message. Dear sweet wonderful Mady,Chris, Trey, Julia, we love you so much and continue to pray that you will have the strength needed to withstand all this! XXXXOOOOGP&E

We think about you often with all you have had on your plate for quite some time. Thanks for keeping us upto date. Our prayers are always with you and for you. When is Maddy's 16th BD. I see Jeanne post. Mady, is there any thing we can get for you? We want to extend an invitation to you all to come to Fl and stay at our B&B, looking over the beach. The offer will be open. Love and blessings, Lad and Bev.
